What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth without metal braces. Instead of brackets and wires, you wear a series of custom, nearly invisible trays that gently move your teeth into place. For adults and teens who want a more discreet, comfortable way to straighten their smile, it’s a popular choice.
What Invisalign can help with
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Mild to moderate bite concerns
- Teeth that have shifted over time or after old braces
- Straightening before veneers or whitening as part of a smile refresh
Invisalign vs braces
Both straighten teeth, but they work differently. Traditional braces are fixed to your teeth; Invisalign trays are removable, so you can take them out to eat, brush, and floss. Many people prefer aligners because they’re hard to notice and easier to keep clean.
How Invisalign treatment works
We start with a consultation and a complimentary 3D scan using our iTero scanner. The scan maps how your teeth could move and helps us tell whether you’re a good candidate. From there, we create a series of custom trays.
You’ll typically wear each set for about one to two weeks, around 20-22 hours a day, taking them out mainly to eat and clean your teeth. We’ll see you for periodic check-ins to keep things on track. Your timeline depends on how much movement your case needs, and we’ll give you an estimate upfront.
A straightening plan made for your whole smile
Straight teeth are about more than alignment – they’re part of how your whole smile looks. Dr. Kristi Kim plans Invisalign with the finished look in mind, considering how your teeth frame your face and how they’ll pair with any whitening or veneers you’re thinking about. Because Highlight Dental Studio is cosmetic-focused, we look at the big picture, not just the trays!
After Invisalign: keeping your results
Once your teeth are where you want them, you’ll wear a retainer to keep them there. Teeth naturally tend to drift over time without one. We’ll talk through retainer options so your results last.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Invisalign take?
It varies by case and simpler cases can take a few months while more involved ones can last longer. We’ll estimate your timeline after your complimentary scan.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Most people feel mild pressure or tightness for a day or two when they switch to a new tray. That’s a sign it’s working, and it usually eases quickly.
How many hours a day do I wear it?
Aim for about 20-22 hours a day, removing your trays mainly to eat and clean your teeth. Consistency is the biggest factor in staying on schedule.
Is Invisalign better than braces?
Neither is “better” for everyone, because it depends on your teeth. Invisalign is discreet and removable; braces handle certain complex cases well. We’ll give you a straight answer at your visit.
Can I get Invisalign if I’ve had braces before?
Often, yes. Teeth that shifted after braces are a very common reason people choose clear aligners.
